The Lin Family Garden: Banqiao’s Most Beautiful Historic Landmark

If you’re looking for a picturesque location to capture the charm of Chinese gardens and historic architecture, the Lin Family Mansion and Garden (林本源園邸) is an ideal destination. The Lin family first built the residence in 1847 and later expanded it into today’s grand estate. It stands today as a remarkable example of Qing dynasty architecture and gardening, offering visitors a glimpse into Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage.

One of the most beautiful places to visit in Taipei

The Lin Family Mansion and Garden is the most complete private garden in Taiwan and, in my opinion, the most beautiful spot to visit in Taipei. Spanning an impressive 20,000 m², the site features a mansion accessible only via guided tours, while the expansive garden is open for free exploration. The garden features smaller themed sections, each showcasing intricate architectural and botanical elements.

Every Visit to the Lin Family Garden Reveals Something New

Hidden paths weave through the garden, guiding you to secluded corners full of surprises. With so much to explore, it’s easy to spend half a day here. Every visit reveals something new, making this garden a place of endless fascination. Words can hardly do justice to its beauty; the best way to understand its charm is to visit yourself. Bring your camera, take your time, and let the garden’s beauty amaze you.

Best Time to Visit the Lin Family Garden

Weekdays, as early as possible, are ideal for enjoying the tranquil morning light and avoiding crowds. The garden is peaceful in the early hours but fills quickly with locals, tourists, and school groups. From my experience, 9:00 to 11:00 AM is the sweet spot. Every season has its charm, even rainy days offer unique photographic opportunities.

    Location and Directions

The garden is located in Banqiao, New Taipei City, and is easily accessible via MRT. Take the Blue Line to Fuzhong Station (捷運府中站) and exit through Exit 1. Walk along Fuzhong Road (府中路) until you reach an intersection marked by a temple gate. Pass through the gate, where you’ll see a large temple on the left, and continue on Fuzhong Road for approximately 150 meters to the intersection with Wenchang Street (文昌街). Turn right onto the bustling Wenchang Street, and after about 100 meters, you’ll spot the garden’s exterior walls. Follow the street to the end, turn left, and walk along the wall until you arrive at the entrance plaza.
